George was born on 29 March 1860 in Tewksbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States. He was the son of Jeremiah Chandler and Ann Cornelia Gibson.

When George was 26 he married Kate F Allen on 29 November 1886 in Canton, Fulton, Illinois, United States. The couple had one child: Stillborn Chandler.[1]
