Lorene Josephine Pendleton PENDLETON, Lorene Josephine – Age 82, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother now sleeps awaiting the Lords return. She passed into her rest Friday, May 30, 1997 in a Roseburg, Oregon hospital after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and diabetes. She was born December 19, 1914 in Gold Hill, Oregon to John and Albertine Chandler. Her childhood years were spent as the family followed her father gold mining in southern Oregon's Grants Pass, Galice and Merlin areas – such as the Blue Buchet Mine south of Jacksonville, Oregon. From there they moved to Butte, Montana where her father worked in the copper mines. Here he died of pneumonia. Her mother took the girls and returned to Oregon to the Molalla-Mulino area, where she took up homesteading. Times were very hard then, Loren remembered. At the age of 15, she was united in marriage to Alfred Preston Pendleton, on August 22, 1930 in Vancouver, Washington. They were married 55 years. They lived adventurous times surviving the depression, camping, peeling (chit'um) bark, panning gold such as, at Jump Off Joe creek in southern Oregon. During the duration of World War II they resided in Portland, Oregon where Alfred worked at the Oregon ship yards. She too could have working in the ship yards but instead made the decision to remain home and care for her husband and daughter. In 1947, Lorene and family moved to Somes Bar, California where Alfred placer mined. In 1948 they moved to Blachly-Triangle Lake area where Alfred logged his remaining working years. They resided there 37 years. Lorene had many interests; she loved writing letters and receiving them, working the daily newspaper crossword puzzles with friends, discussing with them the results each morning via phone. She loved to sew and make beautiful quilts all by hand, knitted and crocheted, cooked and canned. She loved her flowers, indoors and out, kept a beautiful yard, peaceful and tranquil among the trees and creeks. She made a warm and happy home for her husband Alfred and family and all were made welcome who entered in. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband in 1985 and spent the following 12 years living with her children in Roseburg. Also preceding her in death were her sisters Lucille Blowers and Lillian Chandler both of Portland, Oregon. Lorene is survived by her daughter, Audrey Keeney and her husband Walter of Roseburg, Oregon; a grandson, Michael Keeney and a granddaughter, Lorene Roosevelt and her husband Dave of Roseburg, Oregon; six great grandsons, Alfred Roosevelt, Jr and his fiancee Jasmine Stoner, Gregory Roosevelt and his fiancee Jennifer McCool all of Roseburg, Oregon, Adam, Andrew and Danny Keeney all of Winston, Oregon and great-great-grandson Austin Victor Roosevelt (arriving soon) of Winston, Oregon; three nephews, John, David and Norval Blowers of Portland, Oregon and one niece, Betty Lowrie of Canby, Oregon and a loving care-giver, Nancy Brown of Roseburg, who always brought her flowers, and all the dear friends, young and old. She will be greatly missed by all and especially by her family. To know her was to love her. Services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 1997 at 1 p.m. at the Murphy-Musgrove funeral home in Junction City, Oregon. Burial will follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City, Oregon.
