Roy was born in 1895 and passed away in 1965. He served in the First World War in the AIF at Gallipoli and France. He married Nelly Last in England in 1917, and they returned to Australia, settling in Mildura, Victoria.
A very interesting little ceremony took place at the Beulah State School on Wednesday afternoon, when an enlarged photograph of Mr. Roy Chandler, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Chandler, who is now in Egypt as a member of the First Australian Expeditionary Force, was presented to the school. Mr. W. H. Jackson, in a few well chosen words, laid emphasis upon the loyalty and patriotism of Mr. Roy Chandler, who was a former scholar of the school. He pointed out that this young man, who had been the first to offer his services to the Empire from this district, had set an example In courage and self-sacrifice soon followed by many other young men. The photograph, which was Inscribed: "Roy Chandler, born Rosebery, educated Beulah, first to volunteer," was hung upon the wall, after three rousing cheers had been given by all present.
Lance-Corporal Roy Chandler, writing to his parents from France, states that he is still in the trenches. When coming off duty he had met an old town mate, Bill Henshall, who was just going on. At the time of writing Lance-Corporal Chandler was suffering from severe head aches caused by the heavy bombardments.
Corporal Roy Chandler and his English bride were welcomed home on Saturday;
