Disputed Children

There is a disagreement in sources about the number of children born to Samuel and Lydia. Mayflower Families lists children Lydia, Sarah, Nathaniel;^[1] Lydia Brownson lists only Lydia;^[2]

Mayflower Families is likely in error because:

1. three children could not have been born between the marriage 20 Jan 1761/2 and 26 Jan 1763;
2. There is no record of their births at Plympton ^[3]
3. There was probably confusion with Samuel Ellis-5455 and Lydia Lobdell who did have children Nathaniel and Sarah born at Plymouth in 1755 and 1757.
4. Lydia or any children by her are not mentioned in her father's estate distribution.

Biography

Lydia was born in 1737. She was the daughter of Zebedee Chandler and Lydia Loring.^[4][2]

She married widower Samuel Ellis on 20 January 1761 in Plympton, Plymouth.^[5]

Lydia was Samuel's third wife.

Tragically she passed away in 1763 at the age of 27.
