Biography

Avis Grey Chapel was born in 1865, weeks after the conclusion of the Civil War. She was the second child and first daughter of George and Mary Chapel.[1][2] Avis graduated from Michigan State Normal School (MSNS) in 1897.[3] She lived with her parents much of her life.[4] She went on to earn a PhD in Business in 1919 as well as a Life Certificate and Life Diploma from the Michigan Normal School at Ypslanti.[5] She was a dedicated professional educator who never married.[6] She died in Grand Blanc, Michigan in 1950 and is buried with her parents and siblings in the Evergreen Cemetery.[7][8]
