Her 2nd marriage (she was a widow at the time ie. Catheren Bliss) was to Thomas Gilbert the 31 day of the 4th month 1655 [31 June 1655] [12][13] Note June only has 30 days.
Children of Katheryne and Thomas Gilbert:
  1. Sarah was born February 19, 1655/56 at Springfield.[14] She married Samuel Field of Hatfield on August 9, 1667.
  2. John was born October 18, 1657.[15] He was a soldier in King Philip's war, a captive.
  3. Thomas Gilbert. His birth is indexed at family search as 15 March 1658.[16] The image is, however, unclear. At least one genealogist has listed said birth as born March 15,1659/60. He was a soldier at Qaubaug and helped build fort there in Sept 1688. Removed to Brookfield spring 1691. Returned to Springfield in 1696/7 and died May 14, 1698. Married Abilene Marshfield on August 15, 1680. She was the daughter of Samuel. Abilene bore him two children. He married (2nd) Anna ____, by whom he had four children: Thomas, b. 1681; Jonathan; John; Margaret; Sarah; Anna.
  4. Henry was born March 1, 1661/62.[17] He was sent to Brookfield and built what is known to history as the "Gilbert Fort." in 1691, having probably received an inducement of land to settle there. He died there On August 17, 1735.His 1st wife was Elizabeth_____ who died April 27, 1735. He married 2nd the widow Mary Wheat on December 24, 1735. Eight children: Henry b.1684; John b.1686; Samuel b. 1688; Mercy b. 1691; Ebenezer b. 1693; Thomas b. 1695; Elizabeth; Nathaniel b. 1700.
Samuel Marshfield:
She married (3rd) Samuel Marshfield at Springfield on December 28, 1664.[18][19] Samuel was the son of Thomas Marshfield and his wife whose name is unknown. He was born about 1626 and emigrated with his parents and siblings on the Regard a ship out of Barnstaple, England in 1634. The marriage between Catherine and Samuel was his 2nd, having first married Hester Wright at Springfield on February 13, 1651.
Children of Katheryne and Samuel Marshfield:
  1. Josias Marshfeild was born September 29, 1655;[20][21] he married Rachel Gilbert on September 22, 1686.
  2. Hester Marshfeild (or Esther) was born September 6, 1667;[21][22][23] She married Ephriam Cotton on March 26, 1685.
  3. Margaret was born Dec 23, 1670[24] or perhaps December 3, 1670.[21][25] She married Ebenezer Parsons of Springfield.
In addition to Katherine's children, Thomas Gilbert brought additional sons and daughters into the family from his marriage to Lydia Gilbert who had been executed for being a witch. The names & birthdates of these children are unknown, but they are mentioned in the will of Thomas Gilbert, "I bequeath unto my sons and daughters which are in the first family..."Additionally, Samuel Marshfield and Hester Wright, had a daughter Sarah who was married to William Holton on November 22, 1676 at Springfield, [26]

Research Notes

1) Clemens makes the marriage date for Catherine and Samuel Marshfield as June 5, 1662. NEHGR v. 12 says it was July 3, 1655.
2) The Gilbert Family (NEHGR V.4, p.228, 229) (notes at the bottom of the page) mentions brothers of Josiah Marshfield named John, Jonathan, and Obadiah. I have not found other sources that mention brothers named Jonathan and Obadiah.
3) The Chapin Book of Genealogical Data mistakenly gives Katheryne Bliss's maiden name as "Lawrence." She had a brother with the first name of Lawrence, thus the mix-up in understanding the early records.

Some of the records attached contradict her Biography. If you read the records that someone attached yesterday, you will notice that there are a couple of records added that spell it "Katheryne". I didn't notice it before. But, clicking on the changes tab, I saw it.-as I read the sources

I added the PGM project box per NEHGR83:352.

Per note I added "name spelling." I recommend name spelled "Katherine" or "Catherine" unless original records indicate spell "Katheryne."

Katheryne is such an unusual spelling, and it causes duplicates since this profile cannot be found.

PMs please add spelling "Katherine" to diminish duplicates from being created. Thank you so much!
