Hannah is Myrtle's Mother, but we are not sure who the father is. I think that when Sue Hawes asked Myrtle who her parents were she was told her mother and father were Erabella Chappell and someone named Sullivan. I do not know if Sullivan is a first name or a last name.
I was told that Myrtle's mother worked in the Wisner household, and I think I recall the inference that she was born out of wedlock. The Wisner's then adopted her. I do know that Myrtle used to visit a sister named Essa in southern Indiana, I believe near Corydon. . I never heard Myrtle speak of her birth mother, but I think I have seen a picture of mother and daughter, so she knew who her mother was. When Myrtle was a young teenager she found and wrote to her mother and asked her to come to see her. Her mother did. Maybe that is when the picture was taken. As a child, I spent a lot of time with her. She was intelligent, loved to read, was sharp-witted and loved to play games. She taught me to play Chinese checkers, dominoes and some simple card games. It was my impression as a child that Myrtle and J.K.'s children respected ( and likely, loved) their father and that they adored their mother so all the characteristics that made her a wonderful grandmother must have made her a wonderful mother.
Later she married Columbus Newton "Simon" Knowland. When she was 65 she married his younger brother, John.
She died in Clark or Harrison Counties.
As a widow she lived with her son Carna in 1930 and next door to her daughter Bessie in 1920.
