Biography

Elizabeth was a Friend (Quaker)

Elizabeth was born on 8 January 1670[1]. She was the daughter of William and Abigail Charles.

She married Samuel Nicholson on 16 Dec 1688[2]. They had at least five daughters together[1].

Samuel wrote his Will[3] on 22 March 1728 and died a week later on 29 March 1728[4].

Elizabeth was listed as wife and executrix[5]. Samuel Nicholson. 22 Mar 1727-1728. No date of probate. Daughters: Sarah and Elizabeth Nicholson. Friend: Sarah Gloster. Wife and Executrix: Elizabeth. Executor: John Anderson (son-in-law). Witnesses: Zachariah Nixon, John Keaton, Elisabeth Montecue. Clerk of the Court: Charles Denman.

In 1729 Elizabeth married Zachariah Nixon[1]. Although she was 59 and he was 14 years younger than she was, he had become a widower with young children and presumably Elizabeth was willing to help raise these.

Zachariah died ten years later on 12 August 1739 in Perquimans[6].

Elizabeth died in the winter of 1747/8 and her will was probated 19 March 1748.[7] Nixon, Elizabeth. Perquimans County. March 19, 1747-1748. January Court, 1748. Son-in-law: John Anderson. Daughters: Elizabeth Anderson, Sarah Jones. Grandsons: Samuel, John and Joseph Anderson. Granddaughter: Sarah Anderson. Friend: Elizabeth Albertson, daughter of Joshua Albertson. Executors: John Anderson and Joseph Anderson. Witnesses: Thomas Overman, Joshua Albertson, Thomas Nicholson. Clerk of the Court: Edmund Hatch.
