Biography

Samuel Chase, born in what is now Newburyport, 21 Jan 1747/8; died about 1821 in Burlington, VT. [1]

He married (1) about 1765 Mary Conner who died soon after the birth of her son Oliver.

He married (2) in Methuen, 6 July 1769, Sarah Bowley, dau. of John and Elizabeth Bowley, born in Methuem, 31 May 1746.

He was a Revolutionary soldier from Newbury 1775 and 1776 and applied for a pension 24 Apr 1818. He removed to Colchester, VT, where in 1790, he was head of a family consisting of one male over 16 years, three males under 16 and three females (VT Census 24) Later he removed to Burlington, VT, about 1791 where he died. His wife was living, June 1820, aged 73.

Child by first wife, born in Methuen:

  1. Oliver, b. 5 Dec 1768; sea captain; owned five ships; d. umm; lived in Boston.

Children by second wife:

  1. Sarah, b. about 1770; m, Daniel Morehoouse.
  2. Polly, b. about 1773; m Eliphalet Tomlinson.
  3. Josiah, b. 23 Mar 1781
  4. Jacob, b. 9 Jan 1786.
  5. John.
