Biography

Hester Mable Chastain was born on September 13, 1898[1] in Pierce Twp, Lawrence, Missiouri. She was the daughter of John Chastain and Emma Brite. At age 2, she was in her parent's home in Pierce Twp., Lawrence, Missouri, along with her brother, Edgar-5.[2]
At age 16, She married William Ernest "Bill" Buttram age 20, on February 16, 1913, in Garfield, Benton, Arkansas.[3] They had five children during their marriage.

  3. Billie J Buttram (1918-1997)
  4. Edgar Lewis Buttram (1920-2010)
  5. Hester May Buttram (1923-1981)
They were made their home in Center Twp., McDonald, Missouri in 1920, where Bill was farming, and she was tending the home and raising the children, John H-5, Wilma-3, and Billie J-1.[4] They went to New Mexico to try for a better living. They lived in Roy, Mills, and Cimmeron New Mexico in the northern part of the state, then in Albuquerque, Bernalillio, New Mexico. They were in Albuquerque on Highway 66, in 1930 where Bill was working as a Truck Driver for Truck Line. By then all the children had been born and were in the home.[5] They were living on Indian School Rd in Albuquerque, Bernilillo, New Mexico in 1940, where he and Hester were Clerk's in a Grocery Store. they had Edgar-19, Hester May-17 and Billie J-21 and his two small daughters in the home.[6] Edgar was working as a Clerk in a Grocery Store, and Billie J was a Carpenter Helper for a Contractor.
They moved back to Missouri where they lived in Powell on a Farm and in Pineville, for years.
She died on January 8, 1974, in Pineville, McDonald, Missouri, at the age of 75, and was buried in the Owsley Union Cemetery in Longview, McDonald County, Missouri.[1][7]
