Biography
William was born about 1794. He passed away about 1866. William was raised by the Jacob Cooley family in Greenville, South Carolina, USA.
He married Annie Motes 1820 in Greenville County, South Carolina, USA and had issue.
William Chastain and Annie Motes Chastain lived at Fort Chastain which was located in what is now Hiawassee, GA this was about 1820 to 1840. They both spoke the Cherokee language and assisted in the relocation of many of the area's Cherokees to Oklahoma on the famous Trail of Tears. They did not move to Oklahoma as many of the Cherokees that had white blood stayed in the hills of North Georgia, Tennessee, NC, and SC.
William and Annie went with the Cherokee on the trials of tears as far as Mississippi river according to documents from "Dawes rolls application"of Mark Chastain. U.S.[1]
