John was the son of John Chauncy and Margaret Giffard. He was said to be 40 in 1448 when his mother died, pointing to a birth date of about 1408. He may have been born at Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, where his father had property. He was his father's main heir.[1][2]
Marriage and Children
John married Anne Leventhorpe, daughter of John Leventhorpe[3][4] who was an executor of the wills of Kings Henry IV and Henry V.[1][2] They had eight children:
