Catherine's father, James Chick, was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. In June 1776 he joined Captain William Drew's Virginia Company. He was first called out in January of 1777 and served on 5 monthly tours under Captains Ware, Campbell, Hill, Hoskins, and Coatney, and Colonel Nelson in the VA Troops. Enlisted in Nov of 1780 and served 15 days in Capt. Edding's company of artillery. 2/1/1781 he enlisted in the VA Troops. Enlisted again 5/15/1781 served corporal in Capt John Quarls' VA Company. Discharged 6/17/1781. Issued Certificate No. 4244 on 1/19/1833 for pension. He had one brother, William, who lived in Buckingham County, VA in 1832.
