Biography

"William Cherry [C1a6], son of John Cherry Jr and Rebecca Maund, was born about 1680 in Lower Norfolk Co VA. He married Elizabeth Tart (daughter or sister of Eleazer Tart who married Mary Cherry?). William received a land patent with Eleazer Tart on 5 September 1723 in Norfolk Co of 80 acres in Cyprus Swamp near the head of Western Branch. He was on a 10 June 1730 tithable list of Norfolk Co: on the Southern Branch was William Cherry Sr, and sons Solomon and Willis. William Sr left a will in Lower Norfolk Co dated 22 March 1735 (Book 1, page 22). It was proven on 20 May 1737, so William died in April or May that year. His will was witnessed by Solomon Cherry and Joseph Cherry, no doubt his brothers. William could not write. He named his wife and seven or eight children-" [1]
