Biography
She has been detached from Sarah Eley as mother, as Sarah was too young and Solomon didn't marry Sarah until 1757. Mary is the daughter of Solomon by a first unknown wife. She is named in her father's will of 1773 as "Mary Jenkins".
"Mary Cherry [C1a7f1], daughter of Solomon Cherry of Norfolk Co VA, was born in the 1730s in Norfolk Co, or in Bertie Co NC. She married John Jenkins, and died in 1798. They apparently lived in Bertie Co since John Jenkins was found there on tax rosters in 1757, 1769, 1771, and 1783. John Jenkins Sr was living in Bertie Co in 1790. Mary's sister Elizabeth Cherry married Captain Irving Jenkins. (77,NW,WD)" [1]It should be noted that Mary made her will in 1798, but it wasn't proven until Nov 1802, indicating she didn't die until mid/late 1802.
According to one site, her husband was first married to Mary Barnes and then to Mary Cherry. Since Mary Cherry Jenkins only named son James in her will, there is a possibility that he was her only child with John Jenkins.
Will written 30 Aug 1798 in Bertie, NC. Names son James and his wife. Son James sole executor. Witnesses: Wm. Cherry, Abraham Jenkins, Irvin Jenkins. Proved in Nov 1802 court by Abraham Jenkins. [4]
