Prudence Chesebrough was born in 1721/22 at Stonington, Connecticut. She was a daughter of Samuel Chesebrough and Priscilla Alden, and probably was their last child.
Prudence married John Stanton, son of Joseph and Margaret (Chesebrough) Stanton, on 27 Feb 1736/37 at Stonington, New London County, Connecticut. They lived in Groton, where they had 9 children.
Prudence delivered their last child 29 Jan 1762/63, two months after her husband had been killed in Havana, Cuba, presumably as a result of conflict during the Anglo-Spanish War. Prudence thereafter was left on her own to raise all nine of their children. Occurrences such as these, which were not rare, formed popular sentiments against supporting the British empire that increasingly tracted colonial resources (men and materials) to fight "Europe's wars".
Prudence (Chesebrough) Stanton passed away in 1798 at Ledyard, Connecticut.
