Biography

Leofwine, Ealdorman of the Hwicce (living 997)

Wikipedia -- "Under Æthelred, Leofwine's sphere of office after 994 was in the Hwicce areas of Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, but these counties were given to Danes by King Cnut soon after he gained the throne in 1016. However, Leofwine kept his rank and may have been appointed Ealdorman of Mercia in 1017 in succession to Eadric Streona, but Leofwine's eldest son Northman was murdered on Cnut's orders in the same year. Leofwine is last recorded as a charter witness in 1023 and probably died soon afterwards. His son Leofric was Earl of Mercia by 1032."[1],[2]

Assimilation of the Hwicce into Mercia is completed (by the) 780s

Parents

[Leofwine may be the son of Ælfwine, son of Æthelweard (d. 920 or 922) the youngest son of King Alfred the Great and Ealhswith. But there are accounts that Ælfwine died childless alongside his brother Æthelwine in the battle of Brunanburh in 937. see William of Malmesbury, Gesta regumm. II ch. 130 & William of Malmesbury, Gesta regumm. II ch. 135.]

Primary sources researched by fmg.ac don't identify Leofric's parents. The ones given here seem based on later secondary sources that mysteriously connect him with Alwara, as a wife... when she is UNKNOWN. (See Smith, 1873)[3]

Wikipedia has the father of Leofwine as AElfwine.

IMHO... he should be disconnected from any alleged parents. There is no proof of them, and there's another genealogy,[1] that's totally different from Smith (1873), whose pedigree can't be trusted. ... There is no son "Godwin" on PACE.[2]

Why is Unknown-290231 an unmerged match? Looks like the same person to me.

Of NORTHUMBRIA-11 and Mercia-7 appear to represent the same person because: dates are the same
