Biography

Alphonse M. Chevalier was born about 1905 in Canada, the son of Napoleon and Marie Chevalier.

The Chevalier family immigrated to the United States in 1905. Napoleon Chevlier died in Detroit, Michigan in 1909.

In 1910, the Chevalier family lived in Hantramck, Wayne, Michigan. The household included Mary (Marie) Chevalier, 45, a widow, born In Canada, whose parents were French Canadian. She rented their house. Mary/Marie had had 13 children, five of whom were living; her five children, all born in Canada, and whose father was French Canadian: Peter, 19, an auto mechanic, and a student; Mary (Marie), 14, in school; Anthony, 12, in school; Daniel, 7, in school; and Alfonza (son, Alphonse). All could read and write except for the baby.[1]

In 1920, Marie Chevalier and her two youngest children lived with her married daughter, Marie A. A. Beauvais and her family.

In 1920, they lived at 254 Frontenac Blvd, Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. The household included Lee Beauvais, 34, born in Michigan, as were his parents. Lee rented their house, and worked as a metal works pattern maker; his wife Marie A. A., 24, b. Canada, who immigrated in 1905, and became a naturalized citizen in 1907; Lee’s two children (from a previous marriage): Henrietta E., 10, b. MI, in school, whose parents were b. MI; and Henry C., 7, b. MI, as were his parents; Lee’s brother, Raphael L. Beauvais, 39, b. MI, a wholesale grocery checker; Lee’s mother in law, Marie Chevalier, 54, b. Canada (as were her parents), who immigrated in 1905, with Alien immigration status; and her two sons, both b. Canada, both immigrated 1905 and both with PA status (applied for naturalization), and both in school: Joseph D., 17, a house lather; and Alphonse M., 14. [2]
