Research Notes

I don't think "Hulda" is one of his wives N.-17 00:17, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

From the LDS FamilySearch Historical Records....the surname is spelled Chilcoat.

There are problems with James' children, at least two duplicate names, three marriage dates, one without a name and one wife without a date. (16 Aug 2012 under construction) (2016, cannot find any data on Hulda, other wives are straightened out, children not so much)

This family eventually moved to Ohio.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Chilcote-982 and Chilcote-31 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth date & place; same death date and place; same spouse

My study of the Chilcote (Chilcoat, Chilcott, etc) lineage shows not Henry VIII, but rather Edward IV as the connection. Edward's illegitimate son was Arthur Waite Plantagenet, Viscount of Lisle through a long term liaison with a certain Elizabeth Wayte (possibly known as Elizabeth Lucy). Arthur's daughter was clearly Frances Plantagenet who married Thomas Monck of Potheridge. Their daughter Mary Ann Monck married John Arscott, a couple that produced Frances Arscott, born 1573 in Devon. And finally, Frances Arcott joined the very old Chilcott family by marrying George Chilcott (1574 to 1623). I have read a fair amount that substantiates this pedigree, and have added it to my Ancestry.com family tree. With one possible exception, The lineage aligns also with the WikiTree summary. (The exception is that further down the Chilcott line we find a Robinson Chilcott, who is said to have died of swamp fever in the Revolutionary War. I suspect he was a brother and not a Father to John Chilcott.

If anyone wants to see what I have found along this Chilcott line, they are welcome to visit my publicly available Ancestry.com VanBrasch Family Tree. I welcome any insights or corrections that you may have.

Way below the profile interesting ancestors are listed. What is our conference level that John Chilcote is descended from Henry VIII mother (and therefore a whole line of well documented royalty)?
