Biography

Elisha Chisholm (Chism) was born around 1784 in York Co., S.C. His wife, said to be Amelia Flowers (Chisholm), was born round 1781 in N.C. Elisha lived in Grenville Shoals Union/Spartanburg Counties, S.C. in 1786. He moved to Laurens Co., S.C. in 1816. Two years later in 1818, he left S.C. with his cousin, Isham Chisholm, who was from Virginia, for Mississippi. Elisha is listed as living in Covington County, MS in 1820. In 1830, his wife Amelia is listed as being alive but Elisha is not mentioned. His date of death is recorded as 1835 but some speculated he died between 1820 and 1830. Estimated at 1825. Buried in Covington Co., MS. Amelia died in 1850. She was 69 years old at time of death. they had 9 children. [1]

Parents

Elisha Chisholm is said to be a son of John Chisholm, also known as "Blind John Chisholm" (1750-1829) and Sarah Harris (1756-1848). Elisha is thought to have had a twin brother, Elijah who is found in the 1820 census. John Chisholm (1750-1829) is thought to be a son of David Chisholme, the son of the Jacobite Adam Chisholme, who was deported to the Virginia Colony for his support of the Jacobite pretender to the throne in 1715. Adam Chisholm, Jacobite soldier was captured at Preston, and transported to the Colony of Virginia on the Elizabeth and Anne from Liverpool, June 29, 1716. [2] [3] [4]

Marriage

Elisha is said to have married Amelia Flowers (1781-1857). There is some conflicting information regarding who Amelia Flowers married. This is also being researched and it is thought the contradictory marriage information may be the result of error and that there may have been two women of similar names. [5]

Disputed Marriage

In contradictory documentation, Elisha Chisholm and Amelia are said to have married abt 1803 Spartanburg Co SC and had at least 9 children however no proof of this marriage has been found.

Some researchers have also proposed that Elisha and John Chisholm are the same person, however there is no hard proof of that statement and the birth and death records of each man are different. It is more likely that Elijah Chisholm, who married a Permelia "Amelia" Roberts, and who was the twin brother of Elisha have been confused giving rise to the idea that Elisha married Amelia.

Children

Note: Elisha Chisholm, said to the the father of John Chisholm is documented as moving to Laurens County, South Carolina in 1816. This makes that relationship questionable since John is said to have been born in Laurens County, SC in 1804/05.
