Biography

The City of Ottawa Directory shows John and his wife Lyla(sic) living at 138 Glen Ave., in Riverdale Ward. His granddaughter, Nora Louisa Bryant, says that he came to Canada as a ‘Home Boy’, eventually found work with the C.P.R. and rose to become a steam locomotive engineer. For a time, he and his family lived at 203 Gloucester Street, in Ottawa. About 1930, the family moved to Glen Ave., and the house on Gloucester Street was taken over by Helena Walsh, a half sister of his wife, Annie Lilla McLean. Archie McLean had been living with the Chisholms and he simply remained in the Gloucester Street house when his daughter Helena and her family move in. The Glen Ave. house passed to Nora Louisa (Bryant) Huband and she eventually sold it.
