Obituary

Labby Memorial Funeral Home - David Curl Chisholm, 69, of DeRidder, LA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rosepine, LA, on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 2:00 PM, with internment at Beauregard Cemetery. Officiating Minister will be Bishop Ted Badger. The family will welcome friends for visitation at the Church from 12 PM until the time of the service at 2PM.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ulan and Minnie Mae Chisholm, brothers, Joe and Ben Chisholm and sisters, Shirley Chisholm and Virginia Donaldson.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Peggy Ruth Williams Chisholm; his daughters, Laura Moses and husband Claude of DeRidder, LA and Karen Brisch and husband Michael of Houston, TX; a son, Shane Ball of Scottsdale, AZ and his grandchildren, Alexander Chisholm Brisch and Charles Michael Brisch.

He was born in Odessa, TX and spent the first 25 of his life there and moved to Houston, TX in 1963. In 1965, he moved to Lake Charles, LA, until 1970, when he moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands, for 2 years. In 1972, he moved to Orange, TX, until 1987, when he moved to DeRidder, LA.

In 1982, he started an engineering firm, Coastal Technical Services, Co. and built it up to 116 employees at which time he sold out to a competing firm. After this, he worked part time as a business development consultant until retiring in 1999.

He was a faithful, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and as such serviced in different capacities for the Lord. He was a scout master of Boy Scout Troop 223 in Orange, TX for 7 years and always believed this was some of the most important work he could do since it was helping to build boys into righteous young men.

When he moved to DeRidder, LA, he accepted administrative positions in the Church as well as working as Stake Mission President for many years. He place great importance on proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

His favorite hobbies were coin collecting, hunting and fishing. He eventually gave up hunting and fishing because of his health and also more important things to do in the Church. He loved his family with all of his heart and delighted in being with them. His most memorable vacation was Thanksgiving 2001, which he spent with his wife and his 2 sweet girls and their husbands in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

He always loved life and never complained about his lot in life because of his belief that life and all of its aspects are a wonderful gift of God. Hardships and disease are school teachers that we learn from. The only tragedy in life is sin and if we don't believe in Jesus Christ, it doesn't matter what we believe in. His most joyous time was serving in the Church.

He always tried to set a good example for his family and friends through service and love. He was always there for them and willing to do whatever they needed. He had great appreciation for them and their response when he had to ask them for help and even greater appreciation when they volunteered their help.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the American Lung Association of LA, P.O. Box 8310, Metairie, LA 70011-8310 or Agape' Clinic, 305 W. 7th Street, DeRidder, LA 70634. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.labbymemorial.com.
