Biography

Info from "Chittenden Family: William Chittenden of Guilford, Conn. and His Descendants" by Alvan Talcott: Nathaniel Chittenden is the child of William Chittenden and Joanna (Sheaffe) Chittenden. Talcott lists Nathaniel third, but since birth dates are not known, I cannot be sure of birth order.

Nathaniel married Sarah, and they had seven children (Nathaniel, b. Aug 10, 1669, Sarah, b. March 2, 1672; Mary, b. Feb. 6, 1675; Joseph, b. Sept. 6, 1677; Hannah, b. Mar. 15, 1680; Deborah, b. Oct. 15, 1680; and Cornelius, b. 1685). Nathaniel and Sarah lived on Crooked Lane, now State Street, in Guilford, CT. Their lot is now known as the Starr Place.

Nathaniel was most likely buried in Guilford’s cemetery that is now the public park and town center. But, when the gravestones were moved to other cemeteries in 1818, there was no surviving headstone for Nathaniel.

The inventory of Nathl Chittenden Senr late of Guilford was taken on 9 June 1691 and recorded at New Haven.^[1]
