Biography

Hannah was the daughter of William Chittenden and Joanna (Sheaffe) Chittenden. According to Talcott (p. 12), two daughters named Hannah (the first one dying in infancy) were born to William and Joanna, but Talcott's information was incorrect. Apparently, Talcott confused the birth records of Hannah and Deborah.

Hannah was born on April 14, 1652 and died on September 13, 1674.

Her will is dated in Guilford, 5 September 1674.^[1] She mentions her sisters, Elizabeth, Mary and Joanna; her brothers, John, Thomas, and Nathaniel. Her inventory is taken on 16 October 1674 and recorded in New Haven.^[1]

Research notes

The supposed first child named Hannah born in 1649 is not found in the vital records of Guilford. The only birth recorded November 15, 1649 is Deborah Chittenden, not Hannah.^[2]
