Sarah, daughter of Isaac Chrisman and Sophia Harris, was born on December 20, 1846 in Knob Lick, Kentucky. She was the sister of John Henry, William Harris, Marilda Jane, and Thomas Jefferson Chrisman. Sarah married James Combs of Madison County, Kentucky, on January 26, 1871. (Sarah's brother, William Harris Chrisman, married James Combs' sister, Julia.) James and Sarah were married at her parents' home in Estill County. They lived on Gum Bottom road in Madison County, near Brassfield, Kentucky. James was a farmer.
Sarah and James had 8 children: Ennis, Allie, Leslie, Jennie, William B., Steven Edgar "Ed", Wesley G., and John L. Combs. After the death of her husband, Sarah lived for some time with her son, John, and his wife, and also with her daughter, Allie and husband Ninevah Todd. Sarah died in 1931 and is buried in Red Hill Cemetery, Panola, Kentucky.
