The William Christie Family 1914

Notes

1895 KS census living with wife Cora and infant (6 mo) JI in Paola, Miami Co. Occupation listed as farmer.

1905 KS census living at 120 W Monroe, Pittsburg, Crawford Co, KS; gives occupation as miner. (Pittsburg was incorporated in 1880; settled by immigrant European mine workers . It is situated in the center of productive coal fields.) There is also a "Mr. Bond" listed in the 1905 Pittsburg census, age 21, birthplace KS. This would be the right age for Cora's brother Burton, but since he is not in their household I certainly can't make a connection. No other Bonds or Christies appear to have migrated to Pittsburg.

From conversation 8/07 with Nancy Garrow (Virginia Christie Barlow's daughter; granddaughter of Ezra] She said that when Frank married Cora they moved in with Israel and Sarah (this would be consistent with my grandfather's assertion that he was born on Israel's farm). Ezra was apparently quite annoyed when 2 of his older brothers moved back home with their wives, because he felt that they weren't doing their share of work around the farm. She also said that her mother remembers that Frank didn't like farming. She remembers going to visit them in Kansas City, MO (I think this must have been Independence, not KS City). She also told me that she believes he joined the Mormon Church later in life when his health was failing, because they provided a good support system.

Letter from Cora to her cousin "Visa" (see Cora's notes] would indicate they moved out of Israel's house in March 1896, to Osawatomie, KS.
