Biography

ENFIELD – On February 18, 2021, Heaven received an Angel. Our mother, Carmell Christie Wopschall left this Earth on her wedding anniversary to be with her husband, Henry Adams Wopschall. We will miss our mother's love, kindness and generosity as will the many people who have called her their special friend. She loved everyone she met and they loved her. As much as she enjoyed being with her friends, she also took great pride and care in her flower gardens. There wasn't a plant or flower she didn't grow or share with a neighbor. She was born on March 17, 1926 in the Thomsonville section of Enfield, to Collogio Christie and Pasquala Iacolino Christie. She is predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Charles, Samuel, John and a sister Madeline Christie. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Johnson. She leaves her children, Patricia Johnson, Kathleen Turner and her husband Robert, Henry Wopschall and his wife Wendy, and a daughter Christie Flowers and her husband, Daniel. She also leaves her greatest fans – her grandchildren, who she loved dearly, Kristopher Johnson, Brenden Johnson and his wife Paula, Adam Wopschall and his wife Sarah, Tiffany Pignataro and her husband James, Cody Wopschall and his girlfriend Katie Bertrand, Matthew Flowers, Nicholas Flowers, and Zachary Flowers. Also left to hear stories about their G.G. are her treasures, her great-grandchildren, Trey Johnson, Maci Johnson and Vince Pignataro. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins from the Christie and Wopschall families. She appreciated the friendship of Susan Starr who phoned her regularly and Sue Galluccio who also checked in on he regularly. Mom spent her last few years in the good hands of the wonderful nurses and staff of the Suffield House. She enjoyed her daily hugs and backrubs a great deal. Mom retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections in 1989 with twenty-five years of service. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society for many years. Due to the pandemic, all services are private. Donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
