In the 1881 census Alexander (age 77), Surgeon Bengal Army retd., was the head of household in Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian.[3]
Alexander died on 13 March 1885 in Fife, Scotland and their estate passed probate on 29 April 1885 in St. Andrews.[4]
