Biography

Robert Christie was my maternal grandfather. He & his wife, Lula, had 13 children (although one of the earlier-born children died before the latest ones were born, so there were never more than 12 alive at the same time). Robert & Lula lived on a farm on what's now Houston Road, just off NC Highway 21 in Iredell County: to the best of my knowledge they farmed for a living. This information comes from my mother, Julia Margaret Christie Honeycutt. I have names & birth/death dates for Robert & Lula's parents and the names of Lula's grandparents, but have not gone any further back in researching the Christie family to date. Names of Robert & Lula's children include Marjorie, Sarah, Mattie, and Mae; sons included Leonard (the youngest: he fought in Germany & France in WWII); Bill (presumably William: Uncle Bill was deaf, as was his wife), Vestie (nor sure this spelling is correct; he was murdered late in life during a home invasion); and Everett. I'm entering this late at night & can't recall the rest of the brothers now, but may be able to remember them later: if so, I'll add their information.

• Names and dates for William & Lula were given to me by my mother, Julia Christie Honeycutt, prior to her death. I knew all my mother's sisters fairly well; the brothers I knew less well except for Leonard, who lived near us, and Bill, who visited fairly frequently and who also stood out due to his being deaf and married to a deaf woman, as well as having bright red hair: he and Sarah were the only redheads in the family to my knowledge.
