Tommy Church was a renowned 20th century landscape architect nationally recognized as one of the pioneer landscape designers of Modernism in garden landscape design known as the California Style. Church is renowned for is the "outdoor room," creating sub-areas for outdoor living as distinct places within the whole landscape. His garden rooms brought the outdoors in, opening up a whole new way for people to enjoy their yards.^[1]Tommy wanted people to live in their gardens. Most landscape designers today pay homage to him with their designs without even realizing it.
