Biography

Deborah Church, the daughter of Richard Church and Elizabeth Warren, was baptized at Hingham March 22, 1656/7. There is no further record.[1] Anderson says to "See TAG 40:101, 60:131-32 for discussions of her possible fate."

Deborah Church was born 27 January 1656/7 at Hingham.[2]

Disputed Information

This Deborah Church has had Sylvanus White attached as her husband, initially based on a geni.com tree with no sources. It is probably based on a 1963 theory published in The American Genealogist by Mrs. John E. Barclay, who wrote:

"Deborah Church, daughter of Richard Church by his wife Elizabeth Warren, was born 27 Jan. 1657 and baptized at Hingham, Mass., 22 March 1656/7. Her father died 27 Dec. 1668, when she was 11 year old. Deborah was 17 when her mother died on 2 Oct 1673. [notation to see TAG 40:253] Did Deborah die young unmarried, or what became of her? The Church Genealogy erroneously states that Deborah Church died at Boston 17 Jan. 1690, but that Deborah was the second wife of Caleb Church who was living in the Watertown-Boston area at that time. It has often been stated that she married John Irish, but that too can be proved to be erroneous, and reasons why the mistake was made can be explained."
"Sylvanus White (Peregrine2, William1) had a wife Deborah and died in 1688. Sylvanus White was of Scituate. Deborah Church had a brother Nathaniel who lived in Scituate and when left an orphan, she could have gone there to live with him. Sylvanus White and Nathaniel Church died within a year of each other; if the widow of the former was Deborah Church, she could have moved, after they died, to Little Compton, R.I., to live with or near her brothers Joseph Church and Benjamin Church.
"It must be distinctly understood that no evidence whatever has been found for the above suggestion, and it is made solely in the hope of stimulating research which might produce evidence, either for or against the suggestion."[3]

Based on the Anderson information, Sylvanus White has been detached from this Deborah Church.

Also, the death dates of June 29, 1688 and January 17, 1690 have been removed as they appear to be the death dates of different women named Deborah Church.

NOTE: Deborah's Find A Grave Memorial[4], which has no headstone and no sources, includes much of that incorrect information.

Finding no evidence that Daniel White married Deborah Church I have removed him as her husband.

Deborah Church-89 is a completely different person. This Deborah Church was born in 1657. Deborah Church-89 was born in 1677 and her husband Samuel Gray in 1672. On the profile for Deborah Church-89 there are records documenting that her parents were Joseph Church and Mary Tucker, not Richard Church and Elizabeth Warren. I've marked Church-89 as a rejected match for Elizabeth Church-380.

Just today I acquired some old family genealogy documents that include Deborah Church, daughter of Richard Church and Elizabeth Warren. The chart I received indicates that she was the wife of Samuel Gray, which matches the entries for Church-89. Thus I'm led to believe that a possible merger of Church-380 into Church-89 should be considered.

Church-4078 and Church-380 appear to represent the same person because: Please agree to merge these duplicate profiles for Deborah Church, the daughter of Richard Church and Elizabeth Warren. Please use the 27 Jan 1657 birth date provided by Wakefield. Her death information is unknown and should not be 29 June 1688 in Scituate. That death information is for Sylvanus White, who has been connected to her, but has been previously removed for lack of any supporting evidence.

Unknown-191931 is not the daughter of Richard Church-21 and he was incorrectly added to her profile. This message was removed from her profile: 'The first name of Sylvanus White's wife was Deborah, but her surname is not known.' The profile for Church-380 explains why she, the daughter of Richard Church-21, was not the wife of Sylvanus White.

Church-1339 and Church-380 do not represent the same person because: Church-1339 should have her last name at birth changed to Unknown and attached as the wife of Sylvanus White-2107.

Before merging Deborah Church-380 with either Deborah-7 or White-2823, I think we need to figure out if Deborah Church-380, the daughter of Richard Church and Elizabeth Warren, was married to Sylvanus White. The geni.com 'source' is simply someone else's tree, with no sources. The only thing that I've found is what Anderson says 'There is no further record.' So there is no record of a marriage, or a death date. There were other women named Deborah Church, and I am not convinced that the one who may have married Sylvanus White is Deborah Church-380. Some time ago I asked the question on G2G, The only responses had nothing to do with this Deborah Church. Sylvanus White was born 10 years after this Deborah Church. It's possible, but highly unlikely he married this one.
