Biography

1776 Project
Samuel Churchill Sr. served with 4th Connecticut Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Born Newington, Connecticut. Like his brothers he was a farmer and lived next door to his father in a house they built. He attended Yale University.

He fought in the American Revolution with his father Charles, and brother, Levi. He served in the Tenth Company in the Sixth Connecticut Regiment, a division of the Colonial Continental Army.

He was a man eminent for his piety, with which, perhaps, was mingled a sense of quiet humor; for instance, it is said that he was accustomed to read oftener than any other the Psalms which reiterates " For his Mercy endure forever ", Mercy being the name of his wife. [1]
