Biography

Christopher Cecil or Cecill was the son of Sir Thomas Cecil (later 1st Earl of Exeter) and his first wife Dorothy Neville or Nevill.

He was born at the family seat of Burghley House in Northamptonshire, England and was baptised at the parish church of St Martin Stamford Baron. His name in the baptism register was spelled with the Greek Chi and Ro (the shorthand for Christ), and his surname was also spelled Cicell. [1]

Christopher was educated at Cambridge University. He entered Pembroke College in 1593 at the age of 17. After he left Cambridge, he was admitted to Gray's Inn on 4 November 1597. [2]
The Register of Admissions to Gray's Inn shows that he was admitted on the same day as his younger brother Thomas to train as a lawyer: [3]

Venn reports that Christopher drowned while in Germany but does not give a date. [2] The Visitations of Northamptonshire made in 1618-19 show that Christopher was already dead by this year on his travels "ob. in perigrinatione". [4]

The Visitations made no mention of either a wife or children, and no widow or children were mentioned in the will of Christopher's father Thomas in 1622. [5]

Cissell-1 and Cecil-124 appear to represent the same person because: Cissell-1 is nothing but gedcom junk created in error long ago by the same person who created Cecil-124.
