DNA Information

Y-DNA evidence shows that John Baptist Cissell was descended from John Cissell, who was probably his great grandfather, but as far as I know, no one has ever found documentation of who John Baptist Cissell's father was. - Kelts-7 16:07, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

Researchers Notes

John Baptist Cissell was born in St. Mary's County, Maryland before 1742. He probably went to Kentucky with the 1785 Maryland League of Catholic Families. He died in Kentucky in 1799.[4]

According to Timothy O'Rourke, "Catholic Families of Southern Maryland", John Baptist was first married to Rebecca. Children were: Thomas, born 1762; Ann, born 1766; William, born 1767; Jeremiah, born 1773.[5]

Property: See the image (attached to this profile) from the St. Mary's County debt book showing John's 1762 ownership of "Cadle" and "White Acre." (Note that Elise Greenup Jourdan, in Early Families of Southern Maryland, lists two separate John Baptist Cissells--one who owned Cadle, and another who went to Kentucky. It is not clear whether those are the same person, or two different men.[6])

Burial: St. Charles Cemetery, Marion County, Kentucky.[7] More information about this man is available at his Find A Grave memorial.

What is the evidence that John was the son of Matthew?

Cecil-673 and Cissell-16 appear to represent the same person because: Same person; neither well documented but same general dates and places of birth and death; difference in last name spelling is common in this family.
