In 1865 she was widowed, with three children under age sixteen (William, Matteston and Nancy Elizabeth), at the age of 36. Her husband John Ogle, died fighting for the Union in the U.S. Civil War.[2]
According to Reagan (1978), they had another son John (b. 1859), a daughter Martha (b. 1857), and two more children who died young.[1] They are not mentioned in her pension application.[2]
