Biography

Philip Whitehead Claiborne was born ca.1720 and died about 1771[1]

Philip Whitehead Claiborne of Liberty Hall Virginia was the son of Captain William Claiborne[2] of Romancoke, who was the sheriff of King William county. His mother was Elizabeth Whitehead,[3][2] daughter of Colonel Philip Whitehead of King William county, and granddaughter of Richard whitehead (d. 1701) of Gloucester county. He was a member of the House of Burgesses 1770-1772. He died in that capacity and his will was proved on March 19, 1772.

Established his home at Liberty Hall. He was a vestryman in St. John's Parish, in the Commission of Justices for the County of King William, and just was elected one of the Burgesses when he died suddenly at his home. His youngest daughter, Miss Phildelphia Claiborne, was married to John Carter, ESQ., of King George County, Virginia.[4]

Philip married Elizabeth Dandridge,[2] who was the daughter of William Dandridge and Unity West. Unity was the daughter of Captain Nathaniel West, who was the brother of Ann West Fox. [5]
