Prudence was the second wife of Joseph Stetson. Her maiden name is not known. They married by 1670. There were seven children from their marriage.[1]
Notes
Some gedcoms give her name as Prudence Clapp, with no references I've seen. This is just a guess, but did researchers find a young woman named Prudence Clapp and just assume she was the same Prudence who married Joseph Stetson? There is one reference to this marriage in The Second Boat, 199, page 30, no sources given.[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Prudence by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Thomas Clapp apparently had a daughter Prudence, but she was unmarried as of the date of his will in 1684. Thus, she can't be the Prudence who married Joseph Stetson by 1670. I am disconnecting Clap-82 as her father.
Unknown-132602 and Clapp-1655 appear to represent the same person because: Right now Joeseph Stetson is shown as having 3 wives - 2 of them named Prudence. I'm pretty sure that these two are the same lady.
In any case it would be cleaner to only show 2 wives... not 3.
Yes, the Internet is full of user-created content (Ancestry Trees, Findagrave, etc.) identifying her as Prudence Clapp, but none of the serious genealogists who have researched this family have found any records identifying her last name.
I've also not seen a record of a date of death for her. What's the source for the Dec 1687 date recently added to this profile? I see that the Findagrave page gives that date, but there's no indication of a gravestone there. Is that date based on probate records or land deeds?
Clapp-677 and Unknown-132602 are not ready to be merged because: These are clearly the same person (Prudence, second wife of Joseph Stetson), but some decision is needed on whether the LNAB should be Clapp (if te evidence is strong enough) or "Unknown". There are 4 profiles needing to be meged.
In any case it would be cleaner to only show 2 wives... not 3.
