This is the profile for Abigail, the wife of William Sargent of Gloucester.
Parentage
Abigail was the daughter of Edmund Clark, as established by the record of her marriage in Gloucester town vital records, which states "William Sargente Carpenter was married unto Abagele daughter of Edmente Clarke of Gloster husbandman at Ipswich on the 10th day of the 7 mo. 1651."[1][2] As discussed in Edmund Clark's profile, although many secondary sources say that Agnes' mother was Edmund's wife Agnes (Dicke) Tibbot, recent research establishes that Agnes was married to her first husband, Henry Dicke/Dike, until at least 1645 and therefore Abigail must have been Edmund's daughter from a prior marriage. As discussed in Edmund Clark's profile, the identify of his first wife has not yet been determined.
Date and Place of Birth
Based on the Gloucester town vital record of her death, which states that Abigail was in her 78th or 79th year when she died on March 8, 1710/1, Abigail's estimated date of birth is sometime in March 1632 - March 1634.[3] However, since stated or believed ages at death were often inaccurate, a somewhat earlier or later date of birth is possible.
Abigail's place of birth is uncertain. Since, as discussed in Edmund Clark's profile, it is likely that Edmund married his second wife, Agnes (Tibbot) Dicke/Dike, in England and Agnes and her first husband, Henry Dicke/Dike, had been living in Bristol, it is likely that Edmund was also, at the time, living in or near Bristol, and reasonably likely that his daughter Abigail was born in that area.
Marriage
Abigail married William Sargent at Ipswich on September 10, 1651.[1][2]
Death
Abigail died in Gloucester, Massachusetts on March 8, 1710/1. The Gloucester town vital record for her death states that she was in her 78th or 79th year.[3]
