Biography

Birth

Hannah (whose maiden name is not known for sure, but supposed by some to be "Clark"[1]) is believed to have been born 1 July 1744 in York County, Massachusetts Bay and Christened 14 August 1748 in Wells, York, Massachusetts Bay. However, there are no sources supporting these dates or places.

Marriage and Family

Hannah married John Linscott (b. ~1735 d. ~after 1791) around 1766.[2][3] She may have married again after John's death to Alexander Fairbanks before 1797 as the land record mentions Hannah as Alexander Fairbanks' wife.

John's family had settled in Jefferson, Lincoln, Maine before 1745 as they are listed along with John's father as first settlers during the Centennial celebration of that town. The record only says that he raised a large family there.[4]

Notes

[1]Source: "MaidenName" Some geneaologies suggest that Hannah's maiden name was "Clark." There is no evidence to support this. However, this assumption may be based on a Hannah Clark who married a Jonathan Linscott in York County, Maine. That Jonathan was a nephew of Hannah's husband John. It's easy to see how such an assumption could gain traction. Until there is empirical data supporting this assumption, her maiden name will remain unknown.

"Joshua Linscott, as previously mentioned, settled on the farm in the south part of Jefferson, near Newcastle, now occupied by Roswell Linscott and Abiel N. Linscott, and reared a family of eleven children. He died there about 1830, aged 95 years.
"About the same time John Linscott settled on the adjoining farm, now occupied by Ernest Weeks, and raised a large family. From these two have descended all the Linscotts who have ever lived in Jefferson.
"Ichabod Linscott, father of Joshua and John, lived at Damariscotta Mills, and as a millwright built the first dam and mill at that place. He held the title to his land under the Vaughn claim, and was one of the six whom Tappan prosecuted in July, 1741, for ejectment."
