Bowling /Clark/ Sr.[1]
Died on the 4th, at his residence in Campbell County, Mr. Bowling Clark, Senior, aged 87 years.
The disease which terminated so fatally was apparently slight and not of very long continuance. No alarming symptoms gave warning to his family of the approaching calamity and till a few moments before his death they were indulging sanguine hopes of his recovery. All who knew the deceased will sincerely lament this distressing and unexpected dispensation.
Few men have more generally commanded or deservedly possessed the esteem of his acquaintances. He was a man of strong natural sense and acute observation. During a long life spent in laborious industry he sustained in an eminent and exemplary manner the various characters of a father, a humane master and an upright man. He had but few foibles, but those who might have been disposed to blazon them were disarmed of their malignity by the amiable inoffensiveness of his manners, and the decided predominance of his virtues.
This small tribute to his memory is offered by a friend, who during his life knew and reverenced his character and now deeply sympathizes in the affliction of his family.[4]
His will, dated 21 Apr 1817, named "wife Elizabeth Clark the land I now live on including the land purchased of Micajah Davis and 20 shares in Farmers Bank of Virginia.
