Ruth Clarke Porter, wife of Sampson J. Porter, passed away at her home in Storm Lake on June 24 [1928], after an illness of nineteen years duration. She was 77 years and three months old at the time of her death. During her long period of illness she was cheerful and patient, never permitting her suffering to triumph over her courageous spirit. The funeral was held on June 26, and Mrs. Porter was buried at Alta.
Ruth Clarke Porter was born March 25, 1851, in Harrison County, Ohio, the daughter of Aaron and Cassane Clarke. In 1865 the family moved to Iowa, and in 1873 she was married to Sampson J. Porter, and the couple lived on their farm near Malcom for thirty years. To this union were born two children, Worth and Mary. About 1903 they moved to Grinnell, and lived here until about six years ago, then changing their residence to Storm Lake.
Mrs. Porter leaves to mourn her death two children, Worth Porter of Storm Lake, Mrs. Mary Ewart of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Glenn Porter, Wayne Porter and Ruth Ewart; one great-grandchild, Lois May Porter; four brothers, Mack, Grinnell; Thomas, Dakota; Nathan, Ewart; Douglas, Washington; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Kirkland, Grinnell; Mrs. Lucinda McFadden, Grinnell; Clara Donnan, Minnesota, and Hulda Rowe, Iowa City.
