Biography

Janet was born in Hollywood, California in 1907 in to C. Weston Clark and Ada Shrader. Nine years later, her sister Doris (Dodie) was born.^[1] Her father was a businessman and her maternal grandfather was the first Chair of the Physics Department at USC. They formed a business school that operated for quite a while.^[2] She attended Hollywood High School. On June 6, 1930, she married Carl Goodwin Ambrose in Los Angeles.^[3] They had one daughter, Judith. Tragically, Carl died of Hodgkin's Disease on 9 Feb 1937. He was thirty years old.^[4] Within weeks, Janet married a distant cousin, Wally Evans, who had been a suitor for her hand before her marriage to Carl. It was the middle of the Depression and she had no marketable skills and a young child. His mother, Mary "Gamey" Evans, moved in with them, too. She was remarkable woman who had studied music theory with the famous composer, Schoenberg.^[5] Janet died of ovarian cancer in 1959, and was buried in Forest Lawn.^[6][7]
