Edmund Clark was born in or near Granville MA to Samuel Clark and Hephzibah Jones Clark. At the time of his birth his parents were living on a farm that belonged to his grandparents.
As a young adult he was farmed out to help with the harvests and on once such occasion he worked for Asahel Brainerd where he met and married Chloe Brainerd. He called her Chloett as a pet name. Shortly after his 21 birthday in the records of Granville its recorded that Edmund Clark and Chloe Brainerd inst April 20 1801. Edmund and Chloe had 2 children before they joined Russell Atwaters group to go and settle in the area that became Russell NY. He came there with his parents as well as several of his siblings. His next child Austin was born in the log cabin he had built there but all the rest of his children were born in a frame house. Edmund Clark was known for his strength as tales are still told among family members how he would carry 100 pounds of grain and walk all day to the mill then walk back with the flour.
When his eldest child married he divided his farm in half and gave it to her as her dower.
He played the fiddle at her wedding party
