Biography

Elizabeth Prentice Clark was born on the 25th of April 1765 in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.^[1] She was the daughter of Isaac Clark (1740-1826) and Elizabeth D (Hill) Clark (1742-1779).

On February 1784 she married John Mawney (abt.1750-1830) in Massachusetts.^[2]

Elizabeth passed away on the 15th of December 1846 in Rhode Island.^[3]

Research Notes

• Adopted profile: Changes were made to birth, death and spouse as there were no citations. Plus, they did not line up with the Elizabeth Prentice born to Issac Clark and Elizabeth Hill of Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
• The Descendants of Hugh Clark states that Elizabeth's spouse was a Dr. William Mauney of Rhode Island. However, Massachusetts Marriages, a primary source proves that Elizabeth Prentice married a John Mawney instead.^[2]

• The Descendants of Hugh Clark states that Elizabeth died on April 20. 1803. Rhode Island Deaths, a primary source, records the death of John Mawney's "wife" on 15 Dec 1846 but it does not give the name.^[3] More research will be needed to ascertain whether this is the same wife or if he had remarried.
