Biography

David Burton Clark was born to Polly Burton [Halliburton] Ross in Tennessee. No father is listed on his death certificate. There is a U.S. 1850 Census record for a David Clark living in District 15, Jackson, Tennessee, USA with a Polly Ross (age 35). The head of household for this record is a David Halburton age 61, which is his grandfather.

The 1860 U.S. Federal Census indicates he was married to Marget [Margaret] Clark and they were living in Jackson County, TN. The 1900 Census indicates he married Margaret in 1860. There is also a marriage record for Jackson County, TN for a marriage of Margaret Smith and D.B. Clark for April 5, 1860.

By 1870 the family had moved to Monroe County, KY. The federal census indicates they had three children at the time (listed order from oldest to youngest): William H., Martha A., and Samuel H.

The 1880 U.S. Census for Monroe County indicates that family had had additional children Susan, John, and Ardilla since the last census.

The 1900 and 1910 Census records show him living on the same farm. His wife died sometime between these two census records as he is a a widow by the 1910 Census.

He died on January 6, 1919 and the death record specifies he died of senility.

He is buried in the Gamaliel Cemetery, Monroe County, Kentucky, USA along with his wife Margaret and son John Clark.
