"Lyman, the oldest son of Stephen Clark was regarded as being a person with a man with large talent, manly beauty, elegant manners, and highly educated. He was a successful attorney for a period of time and obviously had some political involvement as he was an attendee at an Indian Treaty in the fall of 1818. He was very adept in social situations and quickly made friends and business acquaintances. It was stated that it was this social felicity and his profession that led him to associate with those who loved the circling glass. For several years he struggled with his addiction (presumably alcoholism) until he finally succumbed to what his brother Dr. Miles Clark called a "fit" after one of his periods of extreme intemperate. He was found dead in the home occupied by Dr. Clark and a Dr. Roberts. Miles called him an unfortunate man who had a good heart and a good head. Lyman never married."
