He was in Company E, 3rd Iowa Calvary. He enlisted 8/17/1861 as 5th Corporal. Mustered 9/4/1861. Promoted to 1st Sergeant 4/3/1862. Re-Enlisted & Re-Mustered 2/1/1864. He was taken prisoner & paroled on 10/23/1864 in Big Blue, Missouri. He was wounded 10/25/ 1864 in Osage, Missouri. Discharged 8/23/1865 in Keokuk, Iowa. The 3rd Regiment Iowa Volunteer Cavalry was a Cavalry Regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
