Samuel Clark was born in New Jersey and came when a boy to Mercer County, Pennsylvania, with his parents, who established a village there. The village grew into a town, named Clarksville, in his honor. The town bore the name of Clarksville into the late 1950's and is now called Clark, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. The original community was moved to the present site following the construction of a Shenango River dam for flood control near Sharpsville. [1]
Samuel married Susan Patterson, born in Trumbull County, Ohio. They were the parents of three children:
James P. Clark, born January 9, 1846, died 1925, married Rebecca Parton, born 1858
Jeannette Clark, married Patterson Clark, a resident of Hickory Township
Crinthina Clark, married Frank Nason, also of Hickory Township
Samuel died September 6, 1878 and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, in Sharon, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Susan died in 1897, at the age of eighty-seven years and is buried with him. Hi Chrissy, I think that Mary McDowell is Samuel's first wife. The profile of her and her children were created at the same time as this profile, but seem to have got detached from the rest of the family. Are you ok if I link them in? Thanks, Gillian
