Frances Claxton was born in Bermuda to Chaddock Claxton and Edith Bethel Clark Claxton.
She married twice: first, to Joseph Gibson at Christ Church, Nassau, in 1796; and second, to George Butler at Christ Church, Nassau, in 1801.
She died at 47 years of age in Nassau.
Letter from George Butler of Nassau to his brother-in-law John Claxton of Philadelphia upon the death of Frances Claxton Butler:
"Nassau, 5th January 1820 "Mr. John Claxton
"Dear Sir: "My last advice to you was under date of the 23rd ulto., via Bermuda. Since then I have to inform you of the melancholy fate of the Death of your Sister which took place on the 26th Decemb’r. after a long and painful illness which she bore with fortitude & died perfectly resigned and no doubt gone to a better World___________________ "It is my intention to visit you in May by way of Bermuda in Company with Three of my children; place Norman with his brother at New Haven and Two Daughters in Hartford. "The JUNO is momently expected. By her next voyage I shall ship about $10,000. probably in conjunction with my son, as I am going to several of our neighboring Islands and may not be here when she leaves. With love and respects in which my children join, I remain in haste, "Your truly Effectionate Brother, "George Butler"
