Sarah Louisa Cleaver was the eldest daughter of William Cleaver and Charlotte Jane McDowell. She was born on 14 April 1851 in Russell, Bay of Islands. She was one of the first European children born in the Bay of Islands.
On 11 June 1868 she married John James Wilson, with issue 11 children (three of whom died in infancy).
Her husband died in 1918. She went to live in Whangarei in 1930.
She died on 15 March 1932 in Whangarei, in her 81st year. She was buried in Maunu Cemetery, Whangarei.
At her death she was survived by six children, 29 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
